Senior Congress MP from Haryana, Kumari Selja, expressed grave concern over the rapidly escalating drug menace in the state and demanded immediate, effective action from the government during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha today. She said that Haryana, particularly the Sirsa region, is increasingly falling prey to the grip of narcotics, with the youth being the worst affected.
Addressing the House, Selja stated that hundreds of young people have already lost their lives to drugs, leaving countless families devastated. She warned that if strict action is not taken promptly, the situation could become even more alarming, endangering the future of coming generations.

Challenging the government’s claims of having controlled drug abuse, she said the ground reality tells a completely different story. Drug trafficking continues unabated, and no effective action is visible at any administrative level. Almost every district is witnessing the expansion of drug networks, exposing the failure of the enforcement machinery.
Demanding answers from both the Central and State governments, Selja asked what concrete steps have been taken to curb the spread of drugs. She questioned why strong action is not being initiated against drug traffickers and why there is still no coordinated rehabilitation policy for youth trapped in addiction. She further asked under whose protection such a large-scale illegal drug trade is flourishing and why the government is avoiding accountability.
Kumari Selja emphasized that mere statements will not help tackle this growing crisis. Strong political will, effective policing, the establishment of more rehabilitation centres, and extensive public awareness campaigns are essential. Calling unemployment a major factor behind rising addiction, she stressed the need to create employment opportunities for the youth.
Concluding her statement, Selja said the drug problem is not confined to any one district or state but has become a national issue. She urged the government to treat it as a top priority and take strict, immediate action to protect the youth and society from this grave threat.
